Okay, I’m going to admit this right now. I’m not a great writer. I thought I was when I was in 5th grade, but I realized quickly that I’m not very good.
So, why start a blog? Well, because I’m passionate about life, particularly major gift fundraising and philanthropy and how non-profits and donors should think about it. In other words, I think I have something to say.
I see a lot of crap out there in the fundraising world. And, I want to talk about it and tell you what I think. I also see some really cool stuff and I want you to know about it too.
So, just a little about me.
I’m 46 and I’ve been in the fundraising business for 24 years. Yep, right out of college I started getting into this crazy world. I’ve worked as a Development Director for a couple of small non-profits for 8 years, then at a direct-response fundraising agency for 11 years and now I own my own company called Veritus Group with my business partner Richard Perry.
I absolutely love this work! There is nothing I would rather do then to help people give away their money. It’s a kick. In a way, I feel like I was born to do this work.
Anyway after 24 years, I have opinions and I’m passionate about philanthropy and so I thought now was a good time to share them. My goal is to be honest, real and give you no bullshit.
I have great friends in the industry I’ll tell you about and them and what they are doing on occasion. I will also talk about my life and my other passions.
I have a wife, Julie who an art teacher in inner-city Camden. I have two kids, Jake who is now a sophomore at Fordham University and a daughter Katie who is going to be a senior in high school. I have great kids. Annoying sometimes, but great.
So, here I go. Welcome to my first post. Thanks for reading!
